A major renovation and addition provides universal accessibility to the Station while continuing its useful life into the new century. A series of new accessible entries respond to historical context and siting issues. Extensive mezzanine alterations accommodate new fare collection equipment and extensive platform alterations accommodate the new Low Floor trains. The new design allows the station to conform to ADA requirements and future transit wide requirements.
At surface level, a new elevator and stairs from street level to the fare collection of mezzanine makes the station accessible to all persons with disabilities. On the fare mezzanine, new elevators connect the mezzanine to each of the two platforms. The platforms themselves were raised 8 inches to allow people in wheelchairs to enter the new Low-Floor trains by means of bridgeplates at the vehicle doors.
